Tired of being cooped up at home and in the office? Longing to stretch your legs and work up a sweat in the great outdoors? The upkeep of our mental and physical health has never been more important or more challenging as we navigate the stressful and demanding world we live in, and what better way to find mental and anatomical nourishment than by exploring beautiful landscapes on foot?

This leisurely yet active way of exploring Sri Lanka gives you ample time to take in the island’s unique sights, sounds and scents, and carries you well away from the tourist trail. Your guides know this area intimately so there is no danger of you straying off course. Day 1: Airport > Elkaduwa

Upon arrival, drive straight to Elkaduwa (4.5 hours), leaving the other tourists far behind. Your accommodation for the next two nights is an old tea bungalow which commands sensational views of the Knuckles Mountain Range and has its own waterfall in the back garden. Enjoy a delicious meal on the veranda this evening.

Day 2: Elkaduwa

The scenery surrounding Ashburnham Estate is some of the most beautiful in Sri Lanka. Go on a gentle walk around the nearby tea estate; head down to the waterfall; enjoy a private picnic in a secluded spot, or just laze by the pool and take in the views.

Day 3: Elkaduwa > Madulkelle

Today you will walk from Elkaduwa to Madulkelle, a journey of around 4.5 hours on foot. Your expert guide will lead you through tea plantations, small villages and patches of cloud forest until you reach Madulkelle Tea & Eco Lodge, your accommodation for the next two nights. Your luggage will be transferred to the hotel by your chauffeur-guide whilst you are walking.

Day 4: Madulkelle

Madulkelle Tea & Eco Lodge is a special property, set on a working tea plantation. Start the day with a cup of Ceylon tea on your sit out and watch tea pluckers selecting the best leaves, monkeys gambolling through the trees in the distance. Fill the rest of the day with nature walks and time by the pool, perhaps indulging in a treatment at the beautiful open-sided spa.

Day 5: Madulkelle > Digana

You have two options for your route to Digana today, and those feeling energetic are advised to take the longer trail which includes a detour to the summit of Hunasgiriya Mountain. This route takes approximately 4-5 hours and includes a significant amount of uphill climbing but the views from the top of Hunasgiriya are unparalleled and well-worth the effort.

Day 6 & 7: Digana

Santani Wellness Resort & Spa is one of the leading luxury wellness retreats in Sri Lanka and affords stunning mountain views. There are more beautiful walks to be done from here, but you may choose to just rest and relax over the next two days and indulge in yoga and Ayurvedic massages and treatments.

Day 8: Digana > Airport

You may choose to extend your holiday and explore other parts of Sri Lanka, such as the historic Cultural Triangle or a section of the island’s idyllic coastline, before heading home. If not, this morning your chauffeur-guide will transfer you directly to the airport (4.5 hours).
